Courtney

We have been researching about mode, mean, median and range we have learnt:
Mode: The number that occurs most often in a set of numbers.
Median: The middle number.
Mean: The average value of numbers in a set.
Range: The difference (-) between the greatest number and the lowest number in a set.

How to work them out:

To find the mode in a group of numbers you but the numbers in order of size (smallest to largest) and find the number that occurs the most.
Example: 4 6 4 3 8
Put the numbers in order of size 3 4 4 6 8
Then look and see the number that occurs the most
Answer: 4

To find the median in a group of numbers you put the numbers in order of size (smallest to largest) find out the middle number which will give you the median.
Example: 4  6 4 3 8
Put the numbers in order of size 3 4 4 6 8
Then look at the row of numbers and see which number is in the middle
Answer: 4

To find the mean in a group of numbers you add the numbers together and divide it by how many numbers there are.
Example: 4 6 4 3 8
Add the numbers together: 4+6+4+3+8 = 25
Then divide the answer by how many numbers there are, which is 25 divide by 5
Answer: 5

To find the range in a group of numbers you put the numbers in order of size (smallest to largest) and subtract the lowest number from the biggest number.
Example: 4 6 4 3 8
Put the numbers in order of size: 3 4 4 6 8
Then subtact the lowest number from the highest number, which is 8-3=
Answer: 5
